Benefits of a Daily Yoga Practice

Hello Reader,

Ever noticed the tendency to try to get really organized before going on a long trip?

I certainly LOVE seeing each of you in either my zoom classes or in-person classes. Yet when I decide to go away for a while, I wonder if you keep up your practice on your own?

While learning to practice yoga at home is challenging especially with all the other tasks and duties vying for our attention, regular practice does offer the best long term benefits. There was a study done in 2012 of over 1000 yoga students demonstrating that the frequency of home practice is what favorably predicted better health measures such as levels of mindfulness, subjective well-being, BMI, improved eating habits, sleep, and fatigue.

As I will be away most of November, here is a blog post to help encourage you to spend time tuning in to your body/ mind on your mat. The blog offers you four simple yoga poses you could do every day to wake up and condition both your connective tissues and muscles to reduce your incidence of back pain. PLUS It has a link for a list of ways to create an ideal practice space at home.

Life happens. And the lower back tends to take the brunt of overwork and minimal attention until back pain gets loud enough to cause us to slow down.

It is possible to keep your back pain-free with a few yoga moves. In a short 15-minute practice you can help your back perform its best throughout your day. While this is not an extensive list of poses for total lower back strength and balance, I would refer you to my book for that, these basic poses repeated often will serve you well.

Greetings EveryoneReader, No matter who I talk to, the past few months have been challenging for so many of us on so many levels. Unexpected and out-of-the-ordinary circumstances have presented themselves over and over. Whether you've faced personal challenges, the illness of a loved one, or your own health challenges, circumstances have been unpredictable. The river of life has been moving fast and changing quickly. Perhaps you are someone who has seen many of your intentions come to...

HelloReader, I have a question for you. How strong is your personal yoga practice? And what obstacles do you face in trying to be consistent? To reap the full benefits of a yoga practice, it requires devotion. Not just showing up to a weekly class, but also engaging in a personal practice. A personal practice gives us the opportunity to breathe, compress, expand, and open so we can remember and reinforce our inner journey and the expression of our spiritual body. With ongoing devotion to...

HelloReader, Ever notice how relative time is? From one perspective a year is not a very long time, from another perspective a year is a long time. The year of recovery after hurricane Helene seems like a long time. For me personally the last time I was able to fully dedicate myself to sharing my skills and gifts with you, my greater Yoga community, was August 2024 pre- Helene, which seems like a long time ago. Since August 2024, I have been involved in clearing, recycling, and passing on...
